I’ve been riding motorcycles since I was 8 years old. My dad gave me a Honda CT70 and told me “If you break it, you have to fix it.” So I have been wrenching motorcycles since I was 8 as well.
I spent 15 years working in restaurants and bars and at the age of 35 I decided I wanted to work for the best company in the world. In 2005 I attended MMI and graduated as a certified Harley-Davidson technician in 2007.
I have been working in Harley-Davidson dealerships since 2007 and couldn’t imagine working for another company. I ride ‘em (2004 Softail® Night Train®) and wrench ‘em and I believe anyone looking to purchase a Harley deserves nothing less in a salesperson.

Kenn’s Pick of the Week

It won’t take an evil genius to morph this motorcycle deep into the Dark Side – ordinary mad genius will suffice. The Cross Bones™ harkens to hardtails of yore – when bikes got stripped of excess weight, the parts pawned for gas or party at some Rockabilly Roadhouse. But it rides smooth with Softail family suspension – the naked rear-end no-springs look perfected by H-D over a quarter century ago. Looks rigid but rides so nice – try riding a rigid down the Ike – forget it. The Cross Bones™ can roll out to Starved Rock, the Dunes, the Palisades or just down Belmont or Archer for a lark.
Being a Softail®, there’s a plethora of available parts – mix & un-match to the max. It doesn’t take much; on this bike less is more. From the single sprung seat (hey, take no prisoners) to old-school Springer forks & mini Apes, this bad-ass machine is out there ripping up the lonesome road. Don’t wait for spring, ride mercilessly into it. C’mon in & we’ll discuss custom ideas that’ll knock your baby’s bobby sox right off.

Custom Seats by Vern

If you can’t find a pattern, skin or color you like from Harley-Davidson, or if your bike is not covered by the Custom Seat Program, give Vern Ecker in our sales department a call (708) 788-1300. Vern has over 25 years experience modifying and customizing both cars and motorcycles with an emphasis on interior style.
Vern will take the time to go over what you’re looking for in a seat for your bike. Maybe you want to be positioned a little bit further forward, or want more lumbar support, or want the seat a little narrower. Vern can do it. Vern can also cover your seat in a variety of leathers and skins, in styles and colors too numerous to list. There’s no need to ride around on a plain, uncomfortable stock seat. If you have something in mind for your seat, Vern can do it.

Come out to Illinois Harley and get that special something for that special someone. On behalf of myself and everyone at Illinois Harley, we wish all of you and your family a most joyous and safe holiday.

Ragu’s Pick of the WeekMy pick this week is the all new 2010 Dyna Wide Glide® (FXDWG) with flames. This bike looks so hard core it’s scary to sit on! Clean outlaw styling, from the 21″ front tire to the simple rear grab handle, 180 rear tire, and black accents make this bike one of the baddest Harley-Davidson motorcycles ever produced. Its looks aren’t the only strong points though: it rides and handles unlike any other factory custom because of a frame redesign in 2006. Priced from $15,194 MSRP* with flames, the 2010 Dyna Wide Glide® is a great way to get a new custom bike for the cost of a pre-owned one.

Kenn Hartmann
Kenn’s Bike-ographySo there I was on the inaugural run for my Road Glide®, blasting to Milwaukee to pay homage to Harley-Davidson at the H-D Museum on Canal Street. I hit cruise control & kicked back, my feet up on the handlebars, fingers clasped behind my head, stretched out like being on a chrome steel sofa sliding down the highway. The cold rain started in Kenosha & by Racine it was snowing. I had second & third thoughts, but I had already committed to the ride. Milwaukee was overcast but clear. The museum is brilliant & awe inspiring. At the gift shop, Julie helped me try on a bad-ass retro leather I’d been searching for for years. My only let down was not running into Willie G. Next time, I’m strapping my fishing rod across the handlebars & casting for salmon in the Menominee River that borders Harley’s hallowed grounds.

Kenn’s Pick of the WeekI’m going with the two 2010 FLHX Street Glide® motorcycles that have been customized by our Service Department. Both are fine examples of the possibilities that exist for your own unique, personalized look. One has the color-matched Brilliant Silver Pearl inner fairing with padded dash. The other has chromed out rims & forks. The wheels were introduced this year on the Electra Glider® Ultra Limited & just look freaking great on the Vivid Black Street Glide® in our showroom.

Vern Ecker
Vern’s Pick of the WeekMy pick of the week is a 2010 Iron 883™. Let go of the idea that a motorcycle has to be all chromed out. Let go of the idea that a bike has to be expensive to be cool. The Iron 883™ is a bare bones bike, has more blacked-out components than any other Harley-Davidson motorcycle and starting at $7999 MSRP* in basic black, it’s ready to go.
