Title: U.S. Motorcycle dispatch riders pass road test
Voice over: Training motorcycle dispatch riders for the U.S. Army, one of the toughest, most grueling forces in the service. After six weeks of basic instruction they send them on cross-country trips like this. Now they’re REAL veterans of the saddle.
Marissa Miller, Supermodel: Hi I’m Marisa Miller. Harley-Davidson and I have teamed up to show the men and women of the military our appreciation.
Dino Bernacchi, Harley-Davidson Director of Advertising, Promotions and Entertainment: We came up with the promotion of military appreciation month really because of the rich heritage that Harley-Davidson has had with the military. 30% of our buyers are vets and 14% of our employees are veterans.
Marisa: I grew up in a countryside. We had ten acres, so we had a lot of dirt bikes. So I’m familiar with riding dirt bikes and things like that. My dad and uncle rode Harleys.
Dino: Why don’t we take an entire month and show our appreciation with a call of action and have people join in showing the appreciation.
Marisa: There’s a huge responsibility, I think, in representing a brand like Harley. The riders: this is a full lifestyle and a full movement and I really respect that.
Griffin Guess, Creative Director, Cartel Management: I have a picture of marissa from like way back, like a decade ago, that this guy shot…
Michael Elins, Photographer: I call it the Mount Rushmore of pinups.
Marisa: We’re doing kind of a pinup, throwback theme. We really wanted to show some love to our men and women that serve in the military. So it’s this very nostalgic, patriotic, pinup look. Harley has that all-American feel, I’m the all-American girl, so it was a great concept. I’m really excited about this campaign and I hope the women and the men in the military are as well.
Marisa: It means a great deal to me. My grandfather served in the Marine Corp. And it means a lot to see each and every service man and woman paying the ultimate price every day to have the freedom we do as Americans.
Marisa: So we have a upcoming USO tour. I’m really excited to come meet these service men and women in person, especially with the new Harley campaign and the entire concept with giving back to the military, so I’m excited to bring awaerness to the campaign and see them in person, sign some posters, calendars and things like that.
Marisa: We’re all in this together. We proudly salute the military and we want you to join in at h-d.com/thankyou.

Video transcript:
Hello, I’m Erik Buell.
Our small team in Wisconsin have been building America’s sport motorcycles since 1983.
We have built amazing and exciting world-class bikes.
So it is a very emotional time for me right now as I have to announce that the decision has been made that we will no longer be building Buell motorcycles.
It has truly been an honor for me to work with the other employees at Buell as well as with our suppliers.
We’ve introduced many industry firsts, like dedicated mass centralization, ZTL brakes, underslung mufflers and fuel in the frame.
And this September at the close of our first year at competition at the highest level, the Geico/Rossmeyer/Buell privateer team took the 2009 AMA Pro Racing Sportbike championship, competing against the much larger factory-backed teams from Japan and Europe, and proving to all that our innovation technology is truly world-class.
I’ve also had the great fortune to meet and get to know many Buell riders over the years, and they are an amazing and interesting group of free-thinkers. There’s a camaraderie that is deep, real, and passionate.
While I regret that we will not be able to build new Buell motorcycles, Harley-Davidson will stand behind Buell’s full warranty, whether you are a existing customer or a new customer, and they are committed to supplying parts and services required, market by market.
Our dealers do have a limited supply of new Buell motorcycles. If you are in the market, please contact one of them to get one before they are gone. They are truly superb motorcycles, with great American technology, and a legendary history.
I will always be proud of America’s little sportbike company who took on the world, and with brilliant innovations, produced some of the best handling motorcycles of all time. We proved that a small group of passionate, inspired people can compete against industry giants.
I personally look forward to exploring how I can continue to work with Harley-Davidson to bring advanced product technologies to riders and to further evolve the future of motorcycling.
May you ride with pride into the future, and may your roads ahead be as adventuresome and rewarding as mine have been for the last 26 years.
