Illinois Harley-Davidson is hosting Lee Parks and the Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic (ARC) on Saturday January 23. Cornering technique is the primary focus of the Total Control ARC. Individual skills include corner entry, line selection, body position and corner exit. There are slightly different versions of these depending on the type of bike ridden, but all follow the same philosophical principals that are taught in the course. Throttle control and throttle/brake transitions are also covered in great detail. Additionally, super-tight, low-speed, “parking lot” turns are taught.

Illinois Harley Performance Specialist Jim Egizio
Hosted By
- Ed Long, Service Manager
- Jim Egizio, Performance Specialist
- Dave Matthews, Service Advisor
Illinois Harley hosted a Service and Performance Seminar on Saturday November 7, 2009. We held this seminar to help you sift through the marketing hype and to answer your most common service questions. We gathered Ed Long, Service Manager; Jim Egizio, Performance Specialist; and Dave Matthews, Service Advisor; to cut through the crap and help you make better decisions regarding upgrades and maintenance for your Harley-Davidson.
Illinois Harley Service Manager Ed Long
Ed Long welcomed the group of nearly 40 riders, and started the seminar with a discussion of the various types of oil that lubricate your motorcycle. Noting the difference between the job that transmission, primary and motor oil must do, Ed spent a considerable amount of time explaining the pros and cons of synthetic fluids, including Harley-Davidson’s Screamin’ Eagle® SYN3 lubricant. Ed also covered the proper method for checking your engine oil level, including a discussion of whether to check the oil on the sidestand or straight up, and how to check the oil whether it’s hot or cold.

Jim Egizio joined the seminar as the discussion turned to cam selection and dyno tuning. Jim shared his thoughts on choosing a cam, and explained how critical the exhaust system is to the performance of your motorcycle. Jim shared dyno graphs showing how many aftermarket exhaust systems value cosmetics and sound over performance and tuning flexibility. Jim also explained how your exhaust system may be the limiting factor in getting the best performance out of your motor.
Color matched tweeter pod on a 2008 FLHX
Dave Matthews pumped up the volume, showcasing the latest audio components from Hogtunes and Harley-Davidson. One of the most popular audio upgrades for the touring models is the Tweeter Pod from Hogtunes. Sometimes called the Hog Pod, this audio accessory mounts on the inner fairing, above the tach and speedometer, and puts the treble in your face, not behind the speaker grills, handlebars and master cylinder. The Tweeter Pod comes with a 20 year warranty and the satin black housing can be painted to match your inner fairing for just $100. When combined with Boom! Audio components from Harley-Davidson, you’ll be able to experience audio on your motorcycle like you’ve never heard before.
Our next Service Seminar is scheduled for Saturday November 21, 2009. Please RSVP today.

The weather outside is frightful, but we’re still getting everyone together one Wednesday night each month. Our Wednesday Night Rides are normally on the 4th Wednesday of the month, and we were going to continue that, but due to Thanksgiving and Christmas we had to mix the schedule up a little bit.
So, this month, join us on Wednesday November 18 for a movie night in our showroom. We’ll roll out the big screen, butter the popcorn and fill the cooler. Everyone is welcome. In fact, why not bring a friend? Movie starts promptly at 7PM. Please suggestion a movie below, otherwise Tim is going to show On Any Sunday (again).
If you’re looking for some good biker movie ideas, check out Ronnie Cramer’s Cult Film Site. There are probably some NSFW (not safe for work) images there – you’ve been warned.
See you at the next Wednesday Night Event.
